This version of the Sinfonia is missing the 5th Movement.
In the months after the premiere Berio added a fifth movement, which was first played when Sinfonia was performed during the 1969 Donaueschingen Festival by the Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Ernest Bour, and subsequently in London at the July 22 Promenade concert, with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Swingle Singers.
The 5th movement was an attempt to synthesize the disparity between the other 4 movements. Fragments of each of these are heard throughout this movement conveying the unity of the work as a whole - a sort of aural analysis of the whole composition.
