Listen free to The Doors The Matrix Tapes My Eyes Have Seen You, Soul Kitchen and more. 24 tracks 116:08. It was recorded at The Matrix in San Francisco on March 7 and 10, 1967 by club co-owner Peter Abram the other co-owner was Marty Balin. The recording is notable as one of the earliest live recordings of the band known to exist, played to a mostly empty venue. By March 1967, the Doors had recorded only their debut album released January 4, 1967 and Light My Fire had yet to be released as a single. The first two CDs are taken from their two sets at San Francisco's small Matrix club on March 7, 1967 the other two CDs contain the two sets they did at the Matrix on March 10, 1967. The sound is not perfect, but is very good for the era and something to enjoy, not just to endure for history's sake. Live at the Matrix. Allen Toussaint. The Doors is the debut album by the American rock band the Doors. Recorded in 1966 at Sunset Sound Recorders, Hollywood, California, it was produced by Paul A. Rothchild and released on January 4, 1967. The album features their breakthrough single Light My Fire and the lengthy song The End with its Oedipal spoken word section. The Doors was central to the progression of psychedelic rock, and has been critically acclaimed. In 2012 it was ranked No. 42 in Rolling Stone magazine's 500 greatest albums. December 8, 2015 5:32PM ET. The Complete Matrix Tapes. A historic set of high-fidelity 1969 recordings capture the band at a pinnacle of white-hot guitar jams and streetwise poetics. The Matrix was a small club, partway between the jammed cabaret vibe of Maxs Kansas City and the psychedelic ballrooms the band often played. In addition, they were playing a residency with, one assumes, a number of return customers future Reed guitarist Robert Quine claimed he only missed one show, making for a conspiratorial atmosphere
